1267 | SHOCK KILLS PGE LINEMAN ON POLE -- OREGON CITY, Dec 10 - Herbert H. Simpson, 42, West Linn, Portland General Electric company lineman, was electrocuted about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when his head touched a bare, 11,000-volt power line as he worked on a pole at the new Globe-Union, Inc., batter plant in Oregon City. County Coroner Rayer Rilance said Simpson and two other company employees, Lyle Farran, 5417 SE 45th avenue, Portland, and Frank Galey, Canby, were checking the flow of electricity through a newly installed meter at a transformer installation on the factory grounds. Simpson had just climbed the pole when the mishap occurred. He fell about 25 feet. He was taken to Oregon City hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead on arrival. 1275 | Sioux City, Ia., July 9 - Unable to rally from the sinking spell of Thursday, George P. Day, cashier of the Merchants National bank died at the Samaritan Hospital at 2:40 o'clock this morning. Mr. Day was first attacked during the bankers’ convention here in May, when, while attending a baseball game, which was part of the program, he contracted a severe cold which settled in his head, bringing on the abscess which caused his death. On May 10 he was forced to give up his work in the Merchant's National bank and on June 3 submitted to the first operation, which was performed in the hope of relieving the trouble. Mr. day came to Sioux City in 1882, and from 1888 until the time of his death held the position of cashier at the Merchant's National bank, having been, with E. W. Rice, a co-organizer. He always was devoted to his home and his children and paid little attention to lodges or other organizations outside of his church and the commercial club, organizations with which he was intimately associated. Mr. day was born in Mona, Ia., near Osago, in 1860. His parents removed to Castana, Ia., where they were prominent in Monona county society. | DAY, George P. (I2100)
