353 Birth listed as "24, 2, 1627 [24 April 1627]" by White John Howland of the Mayflower Volume 2. She references "Judge Sewall's Diary in 'old style' (before September 1752), is incorrectly interpreted as 24 February 1627". HOWLAND, John (I247)

354 Birth of this individual was recorded in the Chester town records, but name was difficult to read. In the 1850 census (town of Chester, Penobscot Co, ME), however, name is given as Litchfield. LELAND, A. Litchfield (I320)

355 Births of children all taken from Vital Records of Gloucester, MA to 1749 as listed for David Jr. and Dorcas. Ethel Stanwood Bolton's research states David is the son of Jonathan and Mary Nichols. Indeed, there were two Davids of the correct age to have had these children - David the son of Philip (who married Susanna Davis) and David the son of Jonathan, who married Dorcas. This writer still questions the use of "Jr." after David's name, if in fact, he is the son of Jonathan. Babson is silent on David's marriage and children, but does credit David as the individual wounded at Cape Breton. STANWOOD, David (I561)

371 Calvin Stanwood was listed as the postmaster for north Woodville in 1882. He also served on the school committee. His wife, Bridgit/Betsey McDermott, died the previous year, and his son-in-law, Cyrus W. F. Kimball, was appointed executor of her estate. When Calvin died in 1884, the town assessors stated he had no personal property or estate, and had not been taxed for the preceding three years, having been a dependent parent and pensioner of his son George, who died 25 June 1864 as a result of gunshot wounds sustained while serving in Company A, Maine's 1st Heavy Artillery Unit.

According to Calvin's pension claim, he had been seriously injured and disabled about 1860 when he became entangled in the chain of a sled and was dragged a significant distance through the woods by oxen. Calvin's son George began supporting his parents by making shingles in exchange for pork, molasses, teas and other food items, and working on the "small" 100-acre family farm. When George enlisted as a Union soldier, he gave the bounty to his parents, save $20 which he kept, and sent them $10/month from his wages. One can deduce he was a kind and caring young man.

375 Cannot locate birth record for Esther Stanwood. Curiously, she is not listed in the Vital Records of Mt. Desert Island Maine. However, there is an Esther Stanwood listed having married Andrew Tarr (pg 34), but it does not list the names of her parents. Ethel Stanwood Bolton in her book, "History of the Stanwood Family in America) lists a daughter named Sarah as the youngest child of this family (with no DOB provided). STANWOOD, Esther (I513)

Ernest Simpson Burned His Wife’s Shoes - Now She Will Leave Him.
Special to Times-Republican.
Fort Dodge, July 19,- Ernest Simpson burned a pair of new shoes belonging to his wife. Now she sues for a divorce. There are other allegations beside this in the notice which case to the office of Sheriff Doud this morning from Ringgold county, but the burning of the shoes evidently made a deep impression on Mrs. Simpson, as it is mentioned prominently in a series of questions for a deposition of certain witnesses. Simpson has been working at the carpenter trade in this city and was at work this morning when served with the notice. His wife asks the custody of their three children. Simpson admits he burned the shoes and is willing to grant the divorce, but wants the custody of the children, and will make an effort to get them.

393 Charles likely died 18 April, 1878 with his younger two half-siblings, Alvah and Millie. All three children are buried at Lincoln Center Cemetery, Penobscot, ME, with parents Cyrus W.F. and Isabell (Stanwood) Kimball. Based on census info, Charles was the son of Isabell's first husband, whose last name was McDonald. Charles was listed in the 1870 census with a birth in April 1870. However, based on the age given on his transcribed headstone, he would have been born 12 July 1870. Future research will be done to confirm this very probable, albeit circumstantial, evidence. MCDONALD, Charles (I1903)
