701 Jane's maiden name is somewhat of a mystery at the time of this writing (January 2007). On a 2004 trip to Bar Harbor, the town clerk verbally provided information from the town records, and stated that Solomon Stanwood and Jane Leland married July 27, 1820. However, Ethel Stanwood Bolton's "History of the Stanwood Family in America" lists Solomon Stanwood and Jane Davidson Hamer married in 1820. It seems likely that Hamor is actually Jane's name, as the information on this line of the family (descendents of Solomon Stanwood) provided to Bolton for the Stanwood history book was largely provided by Solomon & Jane's granddaughter, the famous Cordelia Johnson Stanwood in Ellsworth, ME. (Richmond, Chandler. Beyond the Spring: Cordelia Stanwood of Birdsacre. Lamoine: The Latona Press, 1978. Page 16) HAMOR, Jane Davidson (I1098)

703 Jessie Pearl was the second of three children and only daughter born to Ernest and Rowena "Maude" (Willey) Simpson. Ernest and Rowena divorced before Jessie's tenth birthday, and little is known of her from this branch of the family, descended from Ernest and his third wife, Susan Stanwood. However, Ernest told his youngest daughter, Goldie, of his three children from his first marriage, and family tradition states that he "disowned" Jessie Pearl at some point in time. Until the mystery is solved, one can only imagine what offence she may have committed to have fallen out of her father's graces. What is known is that she changed her name to "Deloise," the legal name listed on her death certificate. The informant listed "C.R. Griffin," Jessie's step father, as her father on the document. Billie Dickmeyer, grand daughter of Jessie Pearl, wrote in a 2010 email that "I always knew her as Deloise all my life." SIMPSON, Jessie Pearl “Deloise” (I2218)

705 John and Martha Alley settled where Orson M. Delano lives earlier than 1743. The family is of English descent and came to Townsend from Portsmouth, N.H. They are thought to have been the first permanent addition to the Scotch settlers who had come in under Dunbar. they were the first family to come from that section destined to furnish so large a quote of Boothbay's early population. the dates of their births and deaths or the places of their burial are unknown. ALLEY, John (I2121)

706 John Bursley was on deck, as usual. He came down from Floodwood on Monday morning on purpose to be present at the ceremonies. John is a patriot with a big P. BURSLEY, John Morris (I421)

709 John Day is listed as an early settler of Manchester, and resided on part of lot 41 in Manchester at Augusta to Winthrop Road, Route 202, according to Manchester, Maine 1775-1975, transcribed portions published at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mecreadf/man1790.htm.

John Day was a cordwainer, according to the deed in which he conveyed land to his son, Nathaniel, in 1813. The deed is apparently for the same property noted in the Manchester book above, and is described in the deed as “a certain tract of land it being the premises on which I now live, lying in Winthrop aforesaid, near the west line of Hallowell; it being part of lot Numbered Forty one…”

In the History of Monona County, a biography of Franklin Augustus Day (grandson of John Day), we receive a wonderful overview of the Day lineage back to Robert of Ipswich, and confirmation of our line's migration to Maine. The author writes, "The latter had a son, Jeremiah, born in 1713, who died in 1788, and who was the father of John Day, born March 4, 1751. The latter married his cousin, Miss Sarah Day, and removed from Ipswich to Winthrop, Me., in 1795, with a family of five sons and three daughters. He died in Maine October 12, 1820."

A Mr. John Day was listed in the tax lists in Ipswich for the years 1768 and 1770, and was residing south part of town. This is presumably the older John Day, husband of Eunice, who had his will probated 5 December 1780. The elder John was clearly was a man of means; the inventory of his estate at probate appraised his land holdings at £554, with a total estate valued at £658.

In 1771, a John Day was taxed on a house with his real estate valued at £26 18s; he had £100 lent at interest. Animals taxed were 2 horses, 2 oxen, 5 cattle, 20 goats and sheep, and 4 swine. His land included 20 acres of pasture able to accommodate 150 cattle; his farm produced 150 bushels of grain annually, had 37 acres of salt marsh, produced 20 tons of salt marsh hay annually, had 4 acres of English and Upland mowing grass, and produced 4 tons of English and Upland hay annually. This latter tax also likely reflects the elder John, as our subject would have been a mere 21 years of age.

723 Josie Amanda Wederski
Sierra Vista Herald (AZ) - Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Josie (89) was born March 16, 1924, to Annabelle Boyd Rogers and Joseph Lafette Rogers in Kerriville, Texas.

Mom graduated from Rising Star High School in 1941, in Rising Star, Texas. Shortly after high school, Mom went to work as a telephone operator and her first son, Reginald Wayne Beauford Rogers, was born on Feb. 27, 1942.

Josie moved to Florida for a little while, moved back to Brownwood, Texas, and decided to join the Army after not being able to find a job. She continued in her field as a telephone operator clerk.

While serving in the Army at Fort Jackson, S.C., she met her husband George Robert Wederski.

Our parents, George and Josie got married on March 24, 1952.

Mom got out of the Army in 1952, and our parents moved to Winters, Texas, where they started their family: son, Robert Dennis on Sept. 8, 1953; son, Michael John on April 3, 1955, in Bryan, Texas; daughter, Jean Victoria on June 16, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas; and son, James Glenn on Sept. 11, 1960, in Brownsville, Texas.

Josie took pride in her home as a great and wonderful wife and loving mother. Josie was a very proud mother who loved and cared for her children very dearly.

Mom stayed at home a lot to raise her children, but that doesn't mean she had an easy life. Mom was a survivor through all the hard times we had. She made the best of everything. Mom remained sweet and angelic throughout her whole life, even through her pain up to her death on Sept. 4, 2013.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Annabelle and Joseph Rogers; her former husband, George; son, Robert; son, James; brother, Floyd; and her grandson, Jason Wederski.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne Rogers and Mike Wederski; daughter, Jean Horn; grandkids, Corey, Joey and Rachael Rogers; grandsons, Jeremiah Wederski (Judy) and Samuel Doneson; great-grandkids, Jeremiah Jr. and Elizabeth Wederski, Crystal Doneson, Nicholas Perry Doneson, Nicholas Wederski and Amber Start Wederski.

The family of Josie Wederski would like to express the most heartful thanks to all the wonderful, hard working, dedicated, loving nurses, CNAs, dietary and the rest of staff of Life Care Center of Sierra Vista for the last five years of taking care of Mom. Casa DeLaPaz Hospice and to all of Mom's family and friends who gave her all of their love and support.

Josie (Mom) always had a great big smile and hug for everyone. Mom had a great way about her to make everyone fall in love with her.

She was greatly loved and she will be greatly missed.

A Josie Amanda Wederski memorial will be held at Life Care Center of Sierra Vista, 2305 E. Willcox Drive, Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the dining room.

A special thanks goes out to Michelle Parker, activities director, for all her love, support and help with Mom's services, because without, it would not have been possible. It is most appreciated.

Also, the family would like to thank Ryan Jensen, funeral director at Hatfield Funeral Home for all his care, support and help of Mom.

Rest in peace Mom. We love you very much. Wayne, Mike, Jean and the rest of your family.

From the Farmington Chronicle 19 August 1875, p. 1:
“…[Lemuel Bursley Jr.] subsequently built the house now occupied by Mrs. Andrew Crosswell, on the lot adjoining on the south, for the accommodation of his parents, and in which they spent their declining years.”

From Butler’s The Falls, we learn that Andrew Crosswell’s home was built on lot no. 14, the same lot which Lemuel Sr. purchased from the heirs of Robert Gower (p. 44).

According to Butler's History of Farmington, "Robert Gower was one of the pioneers who explored the township with a view to settlement in 1776; and, in the mutual distribution of the land, received river-lot No. 43, east side...He d. Aug. 29, 1806."  His twelve children included Edward, William, James, Margaret (md. Elijah Norton), Hannah (md. Henry Norton), Sarah (md. Robert Coffren), John, Samuel, Anna (md. John Mayall), Rebecca (md. Elnathan Pope), George.

According to Butler's History of Farmington, "Samuel Eames, in 1788, was the first settler on front-lot No. 13, west side, where he made some improvements, afterwards selling the front portion of this lot to Reuben Lowell, Jr.  He subsequently erected buildings on the back part of his land, and resided there during life.  Mr. Eames...was b. July 28, 1762; md. Sarah, dau. of Reuben Lowell, who d. Aug. 12, 1794; md. (2) Mar. 10, 1796, Thankful Hawkes of New Sharon...Eleven children..."
Old surveys were often measured using a Surveyors Chain. These were literally chains made up of 100 links. Each Chain was 66 feet long. Each link was 0.666 of a foot...or 7.92" To convert the distances on a plat measured in chains (abbreviate Ch) simply multiply the distance in chains by 66.
Another common unit of measurement was the Pole.  The Pole is exactly what it sounds like; a wooden pole which was 16.5' feet long.  To convert the distances on a plat measured in poles (abbreviated P) you must multiply the distance by 16.5  A Pole was sometimes called a "perch" on old surveys.

739 Last Sunday, E.L. Simpson, of Manson, drove to Fonda to visit his brother Dr. M.G. Simpson, veterinary surgeon. His valuable hunting dog “Queen,” an English pointer, came with him, and in working the fields along the route became overheated and died about one hour after reaching here. “Queen” was out of the Sioux City gun club kennel, and was eligible to registration. She was intelligent and well broken and well known to the hunting fraternity of Manson. Mr. Simpson was offered $50 for her, but would not put a price on her. SIMPSON, Ernest Loren (I1524)

740 Lavina's birth was listed on her death certificate as 29 Jan 1850 and on her headstone as 1850. The informant for her death certificate was her son in law, John Cameron. Her cemetery plot was purchased by her son Bert, who presumably bought the headstone. However, a newly discovered obituary which appeared in the Princeton Union states her date of birth was October 11, 1848. A review of the census records does not provide a consistent age; however, she is listed as one year of age in the 1850 census, consistent with an October 1848 birth. In the 1900 US Census her birth was listed as October 1848, and the month/year of birth for the others in the household are all consistent with dates currently researched. Additionally, the Princeton Union obituary states Lavina was born in Bangor, Maine, which seems more likely than Augusta, Maine, a town in which no other family events have been found to have occurred. Further, Lavina and her family were enumerated in Bangor in 1850. Therefore, her birth date and place have been updated to reflect a birth of 11 Oct 1848 in Bangor, Maine. Additional research will be completed to obtain an original birth record. BURSLEY, Lavina Spencer (I1483)
