    • Sioux City, Ia., July 9 - Unable to rally from the sinking spell of Thursday, George P. Day, cashier of the Merchants National bank died at the Samaritan Hospital at 2:40 o'clock this morning.

Mr. Day was first attacked during the bankers’ convention here in May, when, while attending a baseball game, which was part of the program, he contracted a severe cold which settled in his head, bringing on the abscess which caused his death. On May 10 he was forced to give up his work in the Merchant's National bank and on June 3 submitted to the first operation, which was performed in the hope of relieving the trouble.

Mr. day came to Sioux City in 1882, and from 1888 until the time of his death held the position of cashier at the Merchant's National bank, having been, with E. W. Rice, a co-organizer. He always was devoted to his home and his children and paid little attention to lodges or other organizations outside of his church and the commercial club, organizations with which he was intimately associated.

Mr. day was born in Mona, Ia., near Osago, in 1860. His parents removed to Castana, Ia., where they were prominent in Monona county society.
