  Jessie Pearl was the second of three children and only daughter born to Ernest and Rowena "Maude" (Willey) Simpson. Ernest and Rowena divorced before Jessie's tenth birthday, and little is known of her from this branch of the family, descended from Ernest and his third wife, Susan Stanwood. However, Ernest told his youngest daughter, Goldie, of his three children from his first marriage, and family tradition states that he "disowned" Jessie Pearl at some point in time. Until the mystery is solved, one can only imagine what offence she may have committed to have fallen out of her father's graces. What is known is that she changed her name to "Deloise," the legal name listed on her death certificate. The informant listed "C.R. Griffin," Jessie's step father, as her father on the document. Billie Dickmeyer, grand daughter of Jessie Pearl, wrote in a 2010 email that "I always knew her as Deloise all my life."
