  According to the War Department, George was described as 5 ft. 8 3/4 inches tall, fair complexion with light brown hair and blue eyes. His occupation was listed as hostler, also known as a groom or stableman. This was one of many jobs George undertook - he had worked at a circus at one point, but mostly did odd, handy man jobs such as painting in the latter part of his life.
