  Diana Schwarzkopf Ilgen described her grandmother Madge as an outgoing, talkative person who "preferred the metro area versus rural life." Madge's younger years were spent as a bindery girl in print shops. Diana also described her grandmother as an avid rock collector who had a collection of beautiful agates. Madge and husband Harry lived in Santiago, Minnesota and about 1944 moved to Minneapolis where husband Harry worked for Minneapolis-Moline Tractors until he retired in 1965.
